Recently I’ve been receiving a lot of questions about pet vacuums. Some ask how to vacuum pet hair, others ask me about what is the best vacuum for pet hair, the list keeps going on and on. So I decided to sit down and write a review about the three best pet vacuum models that you can grab at the moment. To my surprise it took a bit longer than expected, because I wanted to check for newer products first, before I suggest my own favorites. In the course of my research, I sadly did not manage to find any new models that deserve attention. Many companies advertise their products as if they have invented the best vacuum cleaners for pet hair but that’s rarely the case. Why is it so hard for them to nail down the right combination is not a question that I’m capable of answering. However, what I can do is give you an answer to the question “Which are the best vacuums for pet hair”.
Do bare in mind that ratings aren’t everthing and the best rated vacuums for pet hair might not be actually the greatest thing that you’ve seen – as a matter of fact most of them aren’t.
Today we will be having a look at three models that are perfect for the job – two products that come from the Hoover company and one from Dyson. If you have read my previous articles on the matter of Upright and Canister vacuums, you will recognize them pretty quickly as they were suggested there as well, like some of the best models in their category, for various reasons, that we’ll go over again in more detail.
Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner
Hoover have always been known for their top quality products, and they have not disappointed me yet. This little beauty has served me and my employees for many years now, with it’s great suction power and compact size. Removing pet hair is a huge issue nowadays since most families have pets that are kept inside the home, which gets dog and cat hair all over the place. There are many vacuums advertised as the best vacuum for pet hair, but very few live up to the name – it seems like it’s not as easy to make a good pet vacuum as it is to make an advertisement campaign. Not that I can judge the producers, as there are multiple very reliable and solid companies that have repetitively failed to come up with a good pet hair vacuum cleaner design in the last years, it simply makes the good ones stand out even more. And the Hoover Linx Cordless is just that – one of the best pet hair vacuum models.
- Very lightweight
- Very slim, easily cleans thigh spots
- Battery must be carefully maintained
- The clip on dust container is sensitive
- Needs proper cleaning
- No special stair handle – it might be a bit awkward on stairs
The Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner brings to the table great suction power in a compact form. It essentially a cordless, bagless stick vacuum cleaner, that is equipped with the well-known Wind Tunnel Technology. Generally, stick models are not expected to have much power but this product is on a whole different level. The rotating brushes and the three suction tunnels allow it to easily pick up and trap the dirt, making it possible to remove every pet hair and every last bit of dirt there is on your floors, carpets and furniture. The motorized power brush tool allows it to grab everything it comes across, leaving the surfaces behind as good as new, at least until the next time your dog rolls all over them. The handle is equipped with a one-touch switch, which will turn the brush roll off, allowing for easy transition from carpets to hard-floor surfaces.
The model comes with a Lithium-Ion Battery System with a charger and the battery itself is “fade-free” meaning it will always work on full power regardless of how much energy is left in it. And the special fuel gauge will let you know when it’s time for recharging. In general, the battery tends to live long enough, in some cases longer than you will need to use your vacuum for in a cleaning session.
The extreme recline handle allows the model to go in the tightest of spaces and clean everything up under furniture, behind cases and such, which makes cleaning your whole house a lot easier if you are using just one vacuum.
The dirt cup is see-through, which lets you easily judge exactly when you need to stop cleaning and empty it, even though it usually won’t fill up completely unless you have a really big space to clean.
Accessories and Attachments
Generally when we are talking about Stick vacuums, they don’t have many additional gadgets and attachments to play around with, which for most people is a plus since it’s less stuff to deal with. Usually other vacuums would have special pet hair brushes and whatnot, but here, there’s no need for that. This model is designed so it can easily pick up and hold in any pet hair left behind in your house and it needs no special add-ons for that.
These are the things that set the vacuum ahead of it’s competitors and gives it the the best vacuum for pet hair title in my book.
Great suction – Well this one is self-explanatory, really. It amount of suction power this model offers is incredible for a stick model and can compete with pretty much anything else on the market that’s within it’s category, and even the more expensive models.
Solid and reliable – I’ve been using this very model for four whole years now and I’m yet to encounter any technological problems or difficulties. Which is incredibly rare when it comes to the models of the cheaper variety that this pet hair vacuum belongs to.
Next comes the Decent price tag – the The Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner is a great deal for everyone on the lookout for a good vacuum for pet hair. It’s neither too expensive nor too cheap.
Lightweight – This vacuum is great for people with medical problems, disabilities, and the elderly. It’s easy to use for everyone and will not make you feel tired of carrying it around and cleaning the whole house up.
I have personally not encountered these problems but when I was going through various pet hair vacuum reviews, I found that people were complaining about them so I decided to put them here, as I feel like it’s wrong to leave the disadvantages part empty.
No stair handle – This will make cleaning staircases a bit awkward, if you are not used to stick vacuuming in general. It was never much of a problem for me, since I’m experienced in the usage of various different models and types, but it might be a big deal to some people. This will affect mostly those of you who live in larger houses and such.
The clip on the dust container is very sensitive – This means that if you don’t take proper care of your vacuum and hit it constantly, the clip on the container might start giving you trouble popping open at weird times.
All in all this is an awesome product which easily beats the competition, due to it’s great price-to-power ratio and it’s ability to access all areas of your home, even the most awkward of angles. It’s not hard for it to outmaneuver the competition and since it’s already cheaper and more powerful than most other stick pet hair vacuums of the market, and it can be called the best vacuum for pet hair in it’s category.
My other two suggestions are equally as enticing, just not as popular and they are in different categories. The Dyson is a heavier Upright model, that might have a bit of difficulty aces sing some places in your home, where as the Hoover Upright with Canister is a bit more multi-functional mode that offers extra bag space and power at the cost of complexity but is lighter than the Dyson.
Hoover Platinum Lightweight Upright Vacuum with Canister, Bagged, UH30010COM
The second place is also occupied by a Hoover model. The only reason this one didn’t take the best vacuum cleaner for pet hair title was it’s price tag. It’s a tad more expensive than what people usually are willing to spend on a good pet hair vacuum. It does have some other features however, that more than put it on par with the LINX cordless. This particular pet vacuum cleaner brings so much in terms of versatility and comfort that it’s almost incredible. It’s unique design allows for you to use it as a handheld canister model, and offers you an easy way to store it, saving up a lot of space. This is also an amazing choice for people who like to mess around with attachments, as it has tons of them. The design gives you the ability to use it as a cansiter or as an upright model, depending on the situation. And while in the Upright category it has competitors, in it’s canister form I would say that it’s simply the best canister vacuum for pet hair.
- Great suction
- Lots of extra tools and attachments
- A bit on the expensive side
- No pads on the shoulder strap for the canister
Hoover Platinum Lightweight Upright Vacuum is powered by a 12amp motor, allowing for awesome suction power, backed up by the traditional WindTunnel technology . The model comes with fingertip controls, and a HEPA filter system to ensure that seething that the vacuum sucks in stays in there and it never fails to deliver pristine cleaning results. The amazing versatility that’s brought by the ability to quickly change from Upright to canister form is invaluable for the times when you feel the need to clean something that an upright model won’t do well in such as your car after taking your pet for a ride somewhere. Pet hairs stuck in your vehicle will only be a memory of the past.
Just like my number one suggestion, this vacuum is an excellent for pet owners, and has received thousands of positive responses and has appeared on multiple best pet hair vacuum cleaner lists all over the world. The only downside apart from the higher price tag that I have come across here is the lack of padding on the shoulder strap that comes with it’s canister form, which even if a bit uncomfortable is very much bearable since you can always put it down for a bit and take a quick break from cleaning!
Dyson DC41 Animal Bagless Vacuum Cleaner
And last but not least we have the Dyson Model. The DC Animal is a staple Upright vacuum for pet hair and there have been multiple attempts to mimic the model’s success, most of which to no avail. Again, it’s biggest flaw in the eyes of most people is the price tag, which is even higher than the Hoover Upright model, but it’s well worth the money if you are looking for a solid, long-term model to clean up after your pet with. It offers the usual for Dyson products great suction and powerful filtration, putting it on par with many models from other companies that are even more expensive. The other downside, for me at least is it’s weight. It weighs more than my other two suggestions which might make it undesirable for people with medical problems and disabilities. Other than that it’s a solid pet vacuum, just like it’s name suggests!
- Amazing suction output
- Great dust storage
- Heavier than the other two suggestions (but not too heavy at all from standard Upright perspective)
- Has an electric cord without a self wind up option
The model uses a Radial Root Cyclone Technology which simply put means that any pet hairs that you vacuum in will not be able clog your machine and it won’t suffer any loss in suction power no matter what you clean up with it (within reason of course, don’t try to vacuum things that you aren’t supposed to). The ball technology is a means of easy navigation and steering, which allow you to maneuver around your house without too much of an effort and clean everything up. The cleaner head has the ability to self adjust, meaning that you won’t lose suction power when changing surfaces and the mini turbines allow for pet hair removal even from the most awkward of places. Another fact that’s worth noting is that it’s approved for people who suffer allergies as it is able to capture microscopic particles down to 0.5 microns in size, helping you live in a cleaner environment.
If there weren’t cheaper or lighter variants, I would totally give the DC animal the best vacuum cleaner for pet hair title, but even with it’s two main disadvantages it can still stand up to them. It offers a tad bit more suction and dust storage than them which in my eyes makes all three even. They all have their ups and downs and the main reason I have arranged them the way I have is the popular opinion. In reality, people rarely see the need to go for a more expensive model when there are cheaper solutions around, but there are things that come with the expensive products, such as tools and attachments, that cheaper choices lack. In the end of the day it’s all up to you -I view the three of them as the best vacuum cleaners for pet hair – whichever one you pick, it will most certainly serve you well!
